Members of the national
Referees Association gathered from across Canada at the 18th Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Soccer Referees
Association (CSRA) held on February 17th, 2007 in North Vancouver.
Canadian FIFA Referee and manitoba Referees Association Member Hector Vergara
gave an impressive presentation of his perceptions from working at two different World Cup Finals, delighting his audience
with anecdotes and insights on what it takes to be considered among the best in the world.
The meeting saw representatives from Manitoba, Ontario attending, written reports were also submitted
from Alberta and Sasketchewan and the eastern provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland & Labrador.
There was commonality amongst the attendees on the biggest problem facing refereeing today: retention and recruitment.
It seems no matter where you the problems are always the same.
Joe Licandro (Ontario) was elected President for a two year term, taking over from Basil Gill, who retires after
13 years on the Executive, the last 6 years as President..
Rich Carman (Ontario) agreed to take over as Secretary from Eric Evans, following Eric's recent illness. Eric has
been secretary of this Association for 14 years, and has been the mainstay of the Association, arranging all the conference
calls, AGM venues and contributions to theJ ohn Meachim Fund.
