Heart of Niagara Hotels advertise in CanSoRef, if you
are travelling to the Niagara Region, please make them your first choice of Hotel.
Visit their website at www.heartofniagarahotels.com, and don't forget to tell them you were recommended by The OSRA and
CanSoRef.
Due to editorial difficulties, only one edition of CanSoRef was published
in 2006.
The following motion was proposed at the AGM, and was referred to the first Council meeting in February
for consideration.
In the meantime, we will proceed with the idea, as we believe something is better then nothing. The first
electronic CanSoRef was sent to your Branch President / Secretary on Wednesday November 22 for onward transmittal to
the membership.
CAN-SO-REF PROPOSAL
OSRA Brampton, endorsed by the OSRA Executive
Over the past couple of years,
it has become apparent that the Can-So-Ref has, for a variety of reasons, become less relevant. Consequently, the following
changes to the format and delivery of the magazine are proposed:
That
Can-So-Ref become a news bulletin issued regularly as needed throughout the year, with at least three issues between January
and May. It will be delivered to the Branches in electronic format for onward distribution to the general membership, either
by email or hard copy at the Branches’ expense.
This would address the issue of faster dissemination of important information from the Provincial level to the
Branch level and beyond.
Prior to the AGM, a glossy colour edition magazine-cum-brochure will be published. This would be our showpiece publication
for the year, marking the start of the run-up for the AGM. The brochure would also be used as the organization’s main
marketing tool to advertise our existence to the world, and hopefully attract new members and referees.
As this method of communicating
with the membership and marketing the organization will be less expensive than the current budget for the magazine, the impact
on the organization’s finances will be addressed in the budget proposal for 2007, which is to be presented to Council
at the February meeting.
Rich Carman (OSRA Brampton) has
volunteered his services to take on this project and act as editor and printer to achieve the desired goals set out above.
